It took us several vacations figuring out how to approach the tables. We weren't happy with the table Eriba supplied.
1) The "large" table
The Eriba table (pictured left) was incredibly heavy, and you bumped your feet against the legs when walking past it in the seating area.
We replaced the tabletop of an old Holtkamper table with a standard wooden board (122 x 61 cm). The legs were painted with hammered finish.
On second thought, we decided to use the top of the Eriba table, but not the heavy legs. First, we sawed one side straight, just long enough for the piece that fits as an extension of the countertop. (see: Enlarge kitchen top) A standard tabletop rail was installed on that side (see picture upper right).
Instead of the bulky steel legs, we now used a single aluminum leg, which is removable and secured in a flange (photo bottom right) under the tabletop. We'll omit the flange's locking screw and instead install strong round magnets in the leg and the flange. Now we have a lightweight table that's easy to store. See: Relocating water tubes
2) The small table
Actually, we mostly sit in the small, cozy seating area at the front of the caravan. Nothing has changed there, except for two small drawers added for pens and such.

3) Outdoor table
The table we made from Holtkamper legs and a new tabletop was initially intended as a replacement for the Eriba table. But now it's mainly an outdoor table, or for the awning. We hesitated for a while about veneering it with the same material as the Eriba. That veneer is hard and scratch-resistant, and the look is a crossover between weathered copper and Corten steel. We decided to stain it anyway...
Below is the re-used Eriba table with the new leg. It's a few centimeters shorter, but more importantly, many kilos lighter.
Comments and questions:
OzzyPozzy: We also hung the table on the rail. Makes it much more stable and the caravan itself seems much more spacious.
Peggy: Hoe hebben jullie die tafel op de eerste foto rechtsboven gemaakt? Ook wij vinden de standaard Eriba-tafel onhandig, lelijk en zwaar. Antwoord: Onderstel is Holtkamper tafel. Tafelblad: 12 mm dik triplex, standaardmaat 62x121. Hoeken afronden met decoupeerzaag en randen rond maken met bovenfrees.
