Before we discuss replacing the friction cups on the stabiling coupler, let's share our experiences. The friction cups on the Knott stabilizer soon needed replacing. There were two reasons: a new (painted) tow bar and a lot of mountain roads. Tow bar: when the friction cups have to wear away the hard paint on the tow bar ball, they quickly become glazed. It's better to completely strip the tow bar down to the steel yourself with a rotating steelwire brush attached to a drill. (NOTE: always wear very good safety glasses because if a single steelwire flys out of the rotating brush...)

Mountain roads: on a winding mountain road, in our opinion, the stabilizer adds no value. So, when we go into the mountains, we disconnect the stabilizer. (Aside from the question of how two plastic cups with a diameter of three centimeters are supposed to stabilize a 1000 kilo caravan. At most, it dampens some resonances?) In short: we only use the stabilizer coupling on the highway. And certainly not for maneuvering at a campsite, for example. That saves a lot of wear and tear.

If they do need replacing: for the Eriba Touring model 2024, friction cups for Knott KS25, KS30, and KS35 are suitable. (Identical to the Winterhoff WS 3000). Note the price differences online. Installation seems easy (just pry the old cups out from behind with a screwdriver), but sometimes the friction material comes loose, and the plastic hood is still firmly attached inside the tow bar housing. In the worst case, carefully drill the plastic out.
