Because the Eriba Touring is a pop-top caravan, the installation height for an awning is relatively low. We were used to a Holtkamper Flyer trailer tent with a five-minute setup without loose poles. So we do not want loose awning poles. Conclusion: an inflatable tent!
And the winner is... The Dometic Pop Air Pro. With the included air pump, this tent can be set up in about ten minutes, including pegs and carpet. The air pump is set at 9 psi and switches off automatically once the awning is at sufficient pressure.
The air pump is quite a bit of noisy, which is unavoidable. It uses about 10A current at 12V=. When inflating via a car battery, you actually need to keep the engine running. We don't want that at a campsite.
That's why we have an extra 12V=/15A power supply on top of our "wardrobe" with a 12V= "cigarette" plug (See: 12V power supply and USB ). You then inflate the awning using the campsite power, which is still less than 1A at 230V. The pump's connection cable is five meters long, so it's long enough to run from the power supply.
Test setup: a little silicone spray in the beading rail helps to attach it to the caravan. Also learned: before packing up and putting it away, it's better to unzip the front panel first. This makes everything lighter, more manageable, and easier to get into the tent bag. The rug (photo below) is perfect: doesn't absorb dirt, folds easily, and is strong.
Afterword:
It's a nice awning, but one drawback is that ventilation via a mosquito screen is only possible on one side. We're considering making our own front panel entirely out of mosquito netting. But we can't find the right zipper yet...
